Come out to join your friends and neighbors at the West Church for the annual Christmas in the Country celebration.
It takes place this Thursday at 7 PM and there are several local groups who will entertain everyone.

A charge of $3.00 and a donation to the food bank gets you in to enjoy this popular event.

Tony Tighe from Global TV was in Irricana at 9 am at Rural Grounds on December 8th.
He had been called by the Deputy Mayor of Irricana, Terry McAuley, to hear frustrations about the Cellular Telephone Service in Town.

Dispite numerous attempts to have Telus and Bell, to rectify the problem with the time display on cell phones, they have not listened.

It seems to only occur in Town and when you leave your phone reverts to the regular time. It appears that when we ‘fell back’ on the time change it applied to everyone else but Irricana, who now appears to be in a different time zone.

It does not happen to all cell phones, as a blackberry displayed the right time. Tony’s cell phone was correct, however his camera man’s changed over to the wrong time just outside of Irricana. Mr McAuley advised that his phone which shows his appointments is always trying to tell him that he needs to reflect the new time zone, whenever he is in Town.
The CAO, Carol White also voiced her frustrations on the problems the Town is having with Telus on this matter.

Recently a directive was sent to all residents on 6th street and other areas where there are emergency route signs.
The notice said that in case of a snow storm, please park off the street.

Well on Saturday, the snow plow is having to weave in and out of vehicles parked on 6th street and if you are unable to move them, it is your own fault. The Town is having enough problems trying to keep intersections like 1st ave and 6th street open. This intersection has always had a problem with drifting and several cars have been stuck in the snow today.

Thanks to all the Public Works staff for trying to keep things cleared.

The CRTC is in a dilemma. All the local affiliates of CTV, CBC and all the rest of the main networks in Canada are up in arms about the fact that distributors like Bell, Star Choice etc are able to include their signals at no extra charge.The Canadian networks and their ‘local’ stations feel that they should get a piece of the pie. This is similar to Britain who has charged a ‘tax’ to every household who owns a TV for donkey’s years.

Now, we all like to view the 16 CBC stations on Satelite and the 18 CTV stations and all the rest. Heck, it is delightful to watch what is happening in Sarnia or Victoria or other sites that we only find out about during their news breaks. Most of them I have put parental locks on …. so I don’t have to scan through them all.

However,I may now have to pay an extra $10.00 per month for a fee which will be passed on to these stations. Even though they have about 32 minutes of programming and 28 minutes of commercials every hour, that is not enough. I may have to resort to turning off my parential block in order to get my money’s worth.

There is only so many minutes in an hour and they all seem to have commercials on at the same time, so what does one do….. I know, pay extra for a pay per view movie. Heck, so now we are up to $130.00 or more per month, at least we are supporting Sarnia and Victoria and…… Maybe I can buy something there and pick it up sometime, after all their advertisers are targeting everyone across Canada.

Or….I could turn the box off and read or write or do a little exercise and save money.
